The Cold Steel Recon I knife is an excellent tactical knife and represents an extraordinary value in folding tactical knives. The Recon 1 has much to recommend itself. First, the blade geometry of this knife is very well suited to strength and piercing. The blade has a top swedge which aids piercing, but also, in conjunction with the placement of the bevel, created a stiffening ridge along the blade to enhance strength. The tip comes to a straight ahead point and narrows in width about .5" before the tip. The steel is AUS8a, similar to ATS-34. The handle scales are made of thick slabs of rugged G-10 and bolted to stainless steel liners with no less than 5 torx head screws. The lock is Cold Steel's "Ultra-Lock" which is based on the Benchmade AXIS lock, one of the best locks ever designed. Everything about this knife screams strength. It is brutish and strong and built like a tank with a buttery smooth action. That is more positive aspects than some knives twice its price can claim. |
